| Membership Information |

While membership in the 30th Pa. is not difficult, the applicant should
be prepared to make a commitment to the hobby. Reenactment is not for
everybody and it takes a great deal of perseverance and research to
recreate the world of 1861-65 as accurately as possible. To become a
member, we would suggest the following steps:
1. Contact a member. Several names, along with E-mail addresses appear below. The member will advise you of the time and
location of our next meeting and will gladly answer any questions you
may have.
2. Come out to a meeting. Sit in. Get acquainted. If you can't make
a meeting, call us. A unit representative will gladly meet with you to
discuss membership. There is never any obligation on your part to join.
No pressure is ever exerted.
3. Obtain a membership application form and fill it in. All
applications should be accompanied by the signature of a sponsoring
member (have your contact member sign it). As a member, you will be
eligible to receive our monthly newsletter, the Lancaster Guardian,
containing unit news, schedules of events, the announcement of our next
meeting, and other items of interest. All new members serve a 1-year
probationary period. |

As a member of the 30th Pa., your responsibilities will
be as follows:
* If you wish to be a soldier and carry a rifle, you must be at
least 16 years of age. This is a hard and fast rule throughout the
reenacting hobby.
* We would like to see members make as many events as possible,
especially local events, but we realize people have other commitments
and work and family come first. However, we ask all members to make at
least one event per year as a means of showing your continued interest.
* Keep dues current. Dues are $20 per year for a single member and
$30 for a family.
* Begin to acquire your uniform and accoutrements as soon as
possible. Very few of us can afford to purchase everything at once;
reenacting is, at least initially, an expensive hobby. We place no time
limits on how soon you need to gear up, just remember that the sooner to
obtain your gear, the sooner you can get out on the battlefield and
participate.
* Although we are not heavily into rules, we do expect members to
follow the few regulations we do have, the most crucial of which you
will find at the end of this brochure. Safety is our Number 1 concern in
this hobby. We use real black powder and there is the potential to badly
hurt yourself or others, so repeated safety violations will not be
tolerated. All soldiers will be schooled in the safe use of weapons and
powder.
